Thompson and Mary Rees, on 11 April 1809 in Greene County, Tennessee.4 He married Susanna Gass on 3 May 1830 in Greene County, Tennessee.5 He died before 5 May 1862 when his will was entered into probate in Greene County, Tennessee.6

According to the will, his wife Susan was to have everything during her lifetime. After her death, his children Jane Justis and Keziah Thompson were to share his estate equally. Dutton's wife Susan was named executor and it was witnessed by George W. Gass and Nancy Gass. The will was executed on 5 May 1862.6
