b. 13 March 1752, d. between September 1825 and March 1826

Moses Meddock was born on 13 March 1752 likley in Orange County, New York.1,2 He was the son of Abraham Middagh and Lena Van Aken.2 He was baptized on 7 April 1754 in Minisink Dutch Reformed Church, Deerpark Township, Orange County, New York.2 He married Anne (?)3 He died between September 1825 and March 1826 in Hamilton County, Ohio.4,5
Moses moved from New York with his parents to Sussex County, New Jersey, in 1764. He appears to have remained there through the end of the Revolution. He was probably living in Hardyston Township in 1780.6,7
Moses served as a Private in the Continental Army during the American Revoluation. He first enlisted in the Company commanded by John Lowden, of the Pennsylvania Rifle Company in General Thompson's Regiment. He was honorably discharged after one year of service. Moses again enlisted in 1777 or 1778 for nine months in the 2nd Jersey Regiment in General Maxwell's Brigade.1
As early as 1786, Moses was living in Lycoming Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Lycoming Township would become part of Lycoming County in 1795. It appears that Moses was living in the western portion of Lycoming Township along Pine Creek that would become Mifflin Township. In 1798, Moses was a tenant on a 300 acres tract owned by Andrew Kennedy and Thomas Leeper.8,9,10
Moses moved from Lycoming County to what is now Warren County, Pennsylvania, by 1800. The area where Moses settled become part of Conewango Township.11,12 He was assessed with 100 acres and 2 cows in Conewango Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania, in 1806.13 Moses and Anne sold 100 acres in Conewango Township on 2 April 1813 to Jonathan Thompson of Chautauqua, New York for $600.14
Moses was living in Crosby Township, Hamilton County, Ohio, by 1816 when he purchased 31 acres and 95/100th of an acre from Peter Atherton.15,16
Moses applied for a pension based on his Revoluationary War service in 1818 and again in 1822. In a depostion dated 22 July 1822, Moses stated that his household consisted of himself (aged 70 on 13 March), his wife (aged 70 on 22 August next) and an orphan boy who was 13 years old. He was unable to work due to infirmity and loss of his eye sight. His wife was described as "quite frail and infirm." He was described as being in "such indigent circumstances as to be unable to support himself without the assistance of his Country." His property, valued at $66, consisted of one small mare, one colt, 2 cows, 4 hogs, one old cupboard, one old watch, 6 head of sheep, 3 knives, 3 forks, 3 tea cups and saucers, 6 plates, 4 old chairs, 2 broken pots, 1 spider, 1 old saddle and bridle, and some old barrels. He owned no real estate.1
According to the ledger of payments to Revolutionary War veterans, Moses received a monthly allowance of $8. Payment began in March 1818. He received his last payment in September 1825 suggesting that he died before March 1826 when he would have received the next payment.17
Moses was a shoemaker.1
