Abraham Meddock Jr. was born circa 1835 in Ohio.1 He was the son of Abraham Meddock and Elizabeth Barnes.1 He died between 1860 and 1868.2,3
Abraham was not listed as an heir in the distribution of his father's estate suggesting that he had died sometime between 1860 when he was listed in the census and when his brother settled their father's estate in 1868. Abraham apparently died without heirs since there was no mention of any in his father's estate settlement.2,3

Daniel Middagh1

| Father | Abraham Middagh1 b. 29 Jan 1718 |

Daniel Middagh was born on 23 December 1744 in the Dutch Reformed Church, Machackemack, Orange County, New York.1 He was the son of Abraham Middagh and Lena van Aken.1 He married Maria Bunschoten on 26 August 1770 in the Dutch Reformed Church, Machackemack, Orange County, New York.2 He died on 27 January 1837 in Big Flats, Chemung County, New York, at age 92.3
In his pension application, Daniel states he was born 15 Mar 1735. His death notice in the Elmira Gazette states he was 102 years old when he died in 1837. However, this is not consistent with his baptism record that he was baptised in 1744 nor is it consistent with his parent's marriage date of 1741. It is the opinion of this researcher that Daniel was likely born around 1743 or 1744.4,3,1,5
Daniel Middagh served in the Revolutionary War. While living at Pepper Cotton (likely referring to Papakating), Sussex County, New Jersey, he enlisted on 1 July 1776 and served six months as a private in Captain James Bunnell's Company, First Regiment, Sussex County militia "for frontier defense agaisnt the Indians and Tories." He re-enlisted for 6 months in Captain Westfall's Company of the Sussex County Militia. His third enlistment was as a private in Captain James Broderick's Company, Third Regiment of the Sussex Militia. During this enlistment, he fought in the Battle of Elizabeth. The following nine months he served in Captain Westfall's Company which was attached to Colonel John Hathorn's Regiment, Orange County, New York Militia. His final service was serving New Jersey on the frontiers from 12 June to 30 November 1781.6
Daniel and Maria were living in Papakating, Wantage Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, at the beginning of the Revolutionary War.4 Daniel and Maria moved from New Jersey to near Wyoming, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, at the close of the Revolutionary War. They lived on Moody's Island on the Susquahanna River for 9 years.4 Daniel and Maria moved from Pennsylvania to Tioga County, New York, circa 1792. The settled at Newtown, which is present-day Elmira near to where Daniel's brother Samuel had settled. Daniel and Maria eventually went to live with their son Benjamin at nearby Big Flats.4,7,8,9,10,11
NOTE: There is a government provided grave marker for Daniel in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, New York. However, the memorial page on finadagrave.com states "there is no indication he was buried in this cemetery. The cemetery didn't exist when he died. The plaque was placed long after his death and includes an incorrect year of death. The pension file and his newspaper death notice both document that he died in 1837 versus 1836." He is undoubtedly buried int he area but not at Woodlawn Cemetery.3

Cornelis van Aken was baptized on 25 May 1690 in the Dutch Reformed Church, Kingston, Ulster County, New York.1 He was the son of Marinus van Aken and Pieternelle de Pre.1,2,3,4 He married Sarah Westbroek, daughter of Johannes Westbroek and Magdalena Decker, on 30 April 1714 in the Dutch Reformed Church, Kingston.5 He died between 20 September 1774 and 22 June 1775 in Upper Smithfield Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, present-day Westfall Township, Pike County.6
Cornelis van Aken and Sarah Westbroek lived in Ulster County, New York, following their marriage, according to the tax records and birthplaces of their children as recorded in their marriage records. During that time, they lived in the towns of Rochester, Wawarsing, and Napanoch.7,8,9,10,11,12 By 1730, Cornelis and Sarah were living in Shippekonk, Montague Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, where their daughter Janetje was born.13 Cornelis and Sarah moved across the Delaware River to Pennsylvania by 1734. The van Aken family settled along the Delaware River near Theesacht, Bucks County. In 1752, that area became part of Upper Smithfield Township, Northampton County and presently is in Westfall Township, Pike County. Theesacht was later known as Rosetown, neither of which are currently used.14,15,16
Cornelis van Aken purchased 100 acres in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on 6 December 1740 from William Allen, a merchant of Philadelphia for 80 pounds. This tract of land was part of a larger 213 acres that was divided equally between Cornelis and Derek Rosencranz. Cornelis' land was located along the Delaware River, south of Theesacht (Rosetown) on the southwestern edge of present day Matamoras, Westfall Township, Pike County. Cornelis was described as a yeoman in the deed suggesting that he already owned land.17 He applied for a land warrant of 92 acres and 145 perches in Bucks County on 4 June 1750. The survey was completed on 29 June 1767 and patent granted on 26 April 1784 to Cornelius' son John. Cornelius applied for a second warrant on 5 May 1752. Marinus van Aken1
b. say 1660, d. before 27 September 1724
Marinus van Aken was born say 1660 in the Netherlands.2 He married Prijntje Rents before March 1682 in Cadzand, Zeeland, the Netherlands.3,4 He married Pieternelle de Pre on 11 April 1683 in Cadzand, Zeeland, the Netherlands.5 He died before 27 September 1724 in Rochester, Ulster County, New York.6
Marinus van Aken and Prijntje Rents were living in Cadzand, Zeeland, the Netherlands, in 1682 when they were witnesses to a baptism. Cadzand is a village in the province of Zeeland, in the far southwest corner of the Netherlands. The village sits on the coast of the North Sea and the border with Belguim. While it is likely that Marinus was born in Cadzand or at least near by, no birth record has been identified for Marinus.
A Cornelis van Aken was the father of the child for whose baptism Marinus was a witness in 1682. Further Cornelis was a witness for Marinus' second marriage in 1683. The relationship between Cornelis and Marinus is not known.4,5
Marinus van Aken and Pieternelle de Pre immigrated to America between 1683 and 1685.7,8 He and Pieternelle de Pre were living in Ulster County, New York, in October 1685 when his son Pieter was baptised in the Dutch Reformed Church at Kingston.8 Marinus also witnessed a land deed in Kingston, Ulster County, on 31 January 1686/87.9
Marinus van Aken took the Oath of Allegiance to the British Crown on 1 September 1689 along with all other foreign born residents of Ulster County at Kingston. He took a similar oath again on 8 or 9 September 1715 at Kingston.10,11
Marinus van Aken and Pieternelle de Pre purchased 100 acres "with ye housing Barne & appurtenances called Macmesaminck" in Mombackus, Ulster County, in a deed dated 24 April 1694 from Aeltie Doorn, widow of Aert Doorn for 2400 schepels of wheat (a schepel is about 3/4 modern bushel of wheat). This payment was to be made in 8 distinct payments between February 1695 and April 1698 or the property would revert back to Aeltie Doorn. At the time the deed was signed, Marinus was living in the town of Horly, most likely a reference to to the town Hurly. It appears the property was returned to Doorn in a deed dated 16 February 1696/7, probably for default on the payment. Mombackus was a town near modern day Rochester.12 Marinus and Pieternelle lived in the town of Rochester the rest of their lives.13,14,15,16,17

Pieternelle de Pre1
Pieternelle de Pre married Marinus van Aken on 11 April 1683 in Cadzand, Zeeland, the Netherlands.2 She married Moses du Pue on 17 October 1724 in the Dutch Reformed Church, Kingston, Ulster County, New York.3
Pieternelle de Pre and Marinus van Aken immigrated to America between 1683 and 1685.1,4 She and Marinus van Aken were living in Ulster County, New York, in October 1685 when his son Pieter was baptised in the Dutch Reformed Church at Kingston.4
Pieternelle de Pre and Marinus van Aken purchased 100 acres "with ye housing Barne & appurtenances called Macmesaminck" in Mombackus, Ulster County, in a deed dated 24 April 1694 from Aeltie Doorn, widow of Aert Doorn for 2400 schepels of wheat (a schepel is about 3/4 modern bushel of wheat).
