     Margriet Westfael was born circa 1746.2 She was the daughter of Benjamin Westfael and Annaatjen van Aken.1 She was baptized on 29 January 1749 in the Dutch Reformed Church, Minisink, Orange County, New York.1 She married Samuel Middagh, son of Abraham Middagh and Lena van Aken.3,2 She died on 27 September 1816 in Chemung County, New York.2 She was buried in Scudder Cemetery, Wellsburg, Chemung County, New York.2
     Margriet and Samuel were living in Montague Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, on 23 January 1784 when they sold an island in the Delaware River to Isaac Van Aken. The small island was opposite the dwelling house of jacob van Elters. Samuel and Margaret apparently lived on the island as the deed describes improvements as where "my house, barn, and orched stand."4
     Margriet and Samuel were living in Newtown, Tioga County, New York, by 1793 when Samuel purchased 327 acres of land from Solomon Lane. Samuel and Margaret remained in the area, which would become Elmira, Chemung County, the rest of their lives.5,6,7,8,9,10,11
