FatherFrederick Kiffer1 b. 22 Apr 1756, d. 22 Oct 1824
MotherSusanna Catherine Urey1 b. 29 Aug 1774, d. 24 Dec 1829
Sarah Kiffer was born say between 1800 and 1810.2,3 She was the daughter of Frederick Kiffer and Susanna Catherine Urey.1 She married George Boyd.1 She possibly died in 1844 in Clarion County, Pennsylvania.4

Research Note:

According to an autobiography of Mary J. Meadley Havens, her mother Mary Etta (Boyd) Meadley was born in 1836 in Clarion, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William Boyd and Sarah Keiffer. According to the narrative, Mary Etta's mother died in 1844 leaving William with three children, William Laver, Mary Etta, and George (another account adds another daughter Elizabeth). The traditional story continues that William took his children on a flatboat down the Clarion, the Allegheny, the Ohio and Mississippi to Alton, Illinois, across the river from St. Louis. It was there that William placed his children in "foster homes" and disappeared. Elizabeth was to have fallen off the boat and drowned on the journey and George was to have died in the Civil War, but no record has been found of either. However, William Laver and Mary Etta Boyd are found living in two separate households in the 1850 census in Edwardsville, a suburb of Alton, Illinois.

While not all of the details of the Boyd family narrative can be proven, DNA test results suggest a connection between descendants of different branches of the Frederick Kiffer family and descendants of Mary Etta (Boyd) Meadley. The DNA connection and the overlapping details between the Boyd family narrative and the Kiffer-Beighle Family Record suggest that Sarah Keiffer, mother of Mary Etta (Boyd) Meadley, is the daughter of Frederick Kiffer.

Probably the most significant unresolved difference between the two family records is the name of Mary Etta's father. Mary Etta's daughter recounts the name as William Boyd while Catherine Kiffer Beighle recounts in the Kiffer-Beighle Family Record that her sister Sarah husband was George Boyd. This researcher is not able to judge the veracity of Mary J. Meadley Haven's recollection; however, the Kiffer-Beighle records has proven to be incredibly accurate as far as the datapoints that have been verified by other sources. One datapoint to suggest that accuracy of the Kiffer-Beighle record is the 1840 census of Paint Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania which shows a George Boyd household enumerated near Enoch and John Kiffer households with household members of ages that would correspond with the family as Mary J. (Meadley) Haven understood it. [DKM, 2025]4,1,3
