Research Note:

A comparison of the 1830 and 1840 census enumerations of Robert and Mary's household with the list of their known and attributed children listed in the Beatty genealogy suggests the following possible children are unaccounted for:
-1 daughter born between 1825-1830
-1 son born between 1830 and 1835
-2 daughters born between 1835 and 1840.

There are three children listed in the Beatty genealogy the I have not included:
-Frank, no other information has been found
-James A., born 1846, died 31 May 1855, no further information about the source
-Elizabeth married Weld N. Alden. While Weld N. Alden's wife's name was Eliza Beatty, she was born in about 1813 making her too old to have been a child of Robert and Mary.6,7,11,12

Nancy Beatty1

b. circa 1788, d. between 1862 and 1865
FatherRobert Beatty1 b. bt 1756 - 1765, d. 16 May 1823
MotherAgnes Calhoun1 b. c 1766, d. a 1850
Nancy Beatty was born circa 1788 in Pennsylvania.2,3,4 She was the daughter of Robert Beatty and Agnes Calhoun.1 She married Matthias Stockberger.5,3,6 She died most likely between between 1862 and 1865 probably in Stillwater, Washington County, Minnesota.7,8
Nancy and Matthias were living in Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1820.6 Nancy and Matthias returned in Sugarcreek Township in 1820. That year Matthias is assessed for 250 acres of land in Sugarcreek Township. The next year, he is taxed for only 125 acres along with a gristmill. His brother-in-law John Beatty is assessed with the remaining 125 acres of the 250 acres of land. Matthias appears on the Sugarcreek Township tax lists through 1840.9 Nancy and Matthias moved to McDonough County, Illinois, by 1840.10 Nancy and Matthias moved from Illinois to South Fork Township, Jackson County, Iowa, circa 1842.2,3
Nancy and Matthias moved from Iowa to Stillwater, Washington County, Minnesota, by 1860. Matthias purchased 2 lots in Stillwater in December 1859. He and Nancy sold those lots to their daughter Mary in January 1862.11,4,7

Research Note, 20 June 2022:

Nancy and Matthias likely had serveral children in addition to daughters Nancy and Mary based on census records. They likely had at least one or two sons but their names are not know. Again based on the census record, it appears that Nancy and Matthias raised a grandson Henry Stockberger who moved with them and later lived with their daughters and son-in-law. This researcher has not found any additional information on Henry.6,9,10,2,4,8,12

Research Note, 19 June 2022:

According to Robert Beatty's will, he had a daughter Mary, but there are no records that show who Mary married. It is commonly accepted by researchers of this Beatty family that Robert's daughter Mary married John Kelly. I believe that substantial circumstantial evidence does exist to suggest that it is highly likely to be the case. The proximity of John Kelly to Robert Beatty in Sugarcreek Township, the connection of John Kelly and his wife Mary to Robert's estate and the naming convention of John and Mary's likely children, namely Nancy, Robert, and Beatty, suggest that Robert's daughter Mary was the wife of John Kelly.5,6,7,8
Mary Ann Beatty and John Kelly lived in what is now in Oakland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania. The area where they lived was part of Sugarcreek Township until Oakland Township was established in 1841. The first school taught in what is now Oakland Townshp was taught by John in the years 1805 or 1806, in the house then occupied by Jonas Reynolds. It is noted in the 1879 Venango County History, that the first marriage witnessed in the settlement that is now Dempseytown was that of John Kelly and Miss Beatty. That marriage was performed by Rev. Chase.6,9

Research Note, 30 January 2013:

There is no definitive evidence known to this researcher as to the identity of any of John and Mary (Beatty) Kelly's children. Nancy, Robert, Sarah, John, and Beaty have commonly been cited by family researchers and included by this researcher along with explanations of the evidence supporting the claim. Largely this evidence includes the proximity of these individuals in both time and place that strongly suggesst they are children of John and Mary. However, census records also suggest that John and Mary had other children which include a son born between 1810 and 1815 and another son born between 1820 and 1825. James Kelley, born about 1822, is likely another son based on the census records that show Elizabeth Beatty and George F. Sanner living in his household in 1870 in Ashtabula County, Ohio in 1870. The identity of these possible children has not been determined.9,10,11

Jane Beatty was born between 1791 and 1794 in Pennsylvania.2,3,4 She was the daughter of Robert Beatty and Agnes Calhoun.1 She married Azariah Kelly.2 She died likely between 1870 and 1880.4,5

Research Note, 19 June 2022:

According to Robert Beatty's will, he had a daughter named Jane, but there are no records that show who Jane married. It is commonly accepted by researchers of this Beatty family that Robert's daughter Jane married Azariah Kelly. I believe that substantial circumstantial evidence does exist to suggest that it is likely to be the case. Azariah Kelly appears of the assessment lists of Sugarcreek Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania from 1816 to 1820. Azariah purchased 250 acres of land in Sugarcreek Township in 1818 with John Kelly who is likely his brother. In 1819, Azariah and John, along with thier wives Mary and Jane, repsectively, sell the property. John's wife Mary is most likely the daughter of Robert Beatty. Further, in this transaction, they sell the property to Matthias Stockberger who married Robert's daughter Nancy. While none of these sources prove any familial relationship, it does show that Azariah and his wife Jane did have a connection to Robert Beatty's family and that Azariah's wife is possibly Robert's daughter Jane.6,7,8,2
Jane and Azariah were living in Clarion, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, by 1830 where Azariah was a shoemaker. When they first moved to Clarion, the area was part of Armstrong County until Clarion County was formed in 1839. Azariah and Jane lived there the rest of their lives.9,10,2,3,4

Alonzo Henry Melat
Henry Alonzo Melat was born on 10 October 1858 in Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Robert Melat Jr. and Julia Ann Morrison.1 He married Jennie R. Graham on 15 December 1901 in Houston, Harris County, Texas.2 He died on 9 June 1953 in McAllen, Texas, at age 94.1 He was buried in Valley Memorial Gardens, McAllen, Texas.1
Henry Alonzo Melat also went by the name of Lon Melat.3
Lon grew up in Rockland Township, but moved west to work in the oil fields of Illinois and Indiana. He made his way south to the fields of Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas. He became a well-known oil well driller in that area. He became drilling superintendent for Gulf Refining Company, later known as Gulf Oil Corporation. During the early 1900s, attention began to focus on offshore oil production. It was Lon who designed Gulf's first "over-water oil rig." The first well that was drilled using these methods penetrated the bottom of Caddo Lake, Louisiana in 1912. As a result of his accomplishments Lon moved up through the ranks at Gulf. Soon after the Caddo Lake success, he became production superintendent for Louisiana. Later he became a vice-president for Gulf, moving to McAllen, Texas. He worked for Gulf Oil for a total of sixty years.4,5
