Archibald Hill was born circa 1765 in Isle of Magee, County Antrim, Ireland.1,3 He was the son of Timothy Hill and Esther Dick.2 He married Mary Fulton, daughter of Thomas Fulton and Sarah Buchanan, on 30 April 1800 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania.4,3 He died on 3 May 1817 in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.1 He was buried in Conneaut Cemetery, Wayne Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.1
It is said that Archibald was a weaver by trade.2 Archibald Hill immigrated in 1795 to America and settled in what was then the northern part of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.2 He applied for a land warrant of 400 acres near the confluence of Conneaut Outlet Creek and French Creek in 1796. The warrant was issued 29 December 1801. In 1800, Crawford County was erected, and the area where Archibald had located became part of Fairfield Township, Crawford County. The land was surveyed 2 June 1802, resulted in a tract of 408 acres, 23 perches. A patent, a document passing title from the Commonwealth, was issued 8 July 1806. The tract of land, titled "Emsworth" was purchased for $32.13.5 He was a farmer, but in order to help make ends meet, Archibald worked in a sawmill for a Dr. Kennedy.6 He and Mary Fulton were members of the Presbyterian church, and Archibald was a trustee of the French Creek Presbyterian Church.2 He died leaving minor children and Mary Hill was appointed guardian. Their children Esther and Sally (both over 14 years), and Timothy, Samuel, Ann, Thomas, Mary, and Jane (all under 14 years) were listed.7 Archibald Hill's farm in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, was sold by his surviving children on 22 September 1842.8
