     William Elliott McCandless was born on 2 May 1808 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.¹ He was the son of William McCandless and Mary Elliott.¹ He died on 25 August 1809 at age 1.¹

     Wilson McCandless was born on 19 June 1819 in Noblestown, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.¹ He was the son of William McCandless and Mary Elliott.¹ He married Sarah North Collins on 4 December 1834 in Pittsburgh.² He died on 30 June 1882 in Allegheny County at age 63.¹

     Wilson McCandless was educated at the Western University of Pennsylvania; admitted to the Allegheny County Bar on 15 Jun 1831; appointed Judge of the District Court of the United States for the District of Western Pennsylvania on 3 February 1859. He was twice president of the Pennsylvania Electoral College and delivered an address welcoming President John Quincy Adams to Pittsburgh.^2,1

     Sarah North Collins was born on 16 April 1813 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.¹ She married Wilson McCandless, son of William McCandless and Mary Elliott, on 4 December 1834 in Pittsburgh.¹ She died on 30 March 1903 in Allegheny County at age 89.¹

     Nancy McCandless was born on 17 April 1802 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.¹ She was the daughter of Alexander McCandless and Margaret Record.¹ She married James Armor on 27 December 1832.¹ She died on 10 December 1880 in Hanover Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, at age 78.¹ She was buried in Hebron Cemetery, Hanover Township.¹

     Esther Hill was born on 20 September 1801 in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.¹ She was the daughter of Archibald Hill and Mary Fulton.¹ She married Ira Holloway on 21 November 1821.¹

     Timothy F. Hill was born on 6 October 1805 in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.¹ He was the son of Archibald Hill and Mary Fulton.¹ He married Sarah Montgomery, daughter of James Montgomery and Sarah Fulton, on 1 November 1827.^1,2 He died on 28 June 1884 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, at age 78.³ He was buried in Conneaut Cemetery, Fairfield Township, Crawford County.⁴

     Sarah Montgomery was born in 1809 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania.¹ She was the daughter of James Montgomery and Sarah Fulton.² She married Timothy F. Hill, son of Archibald Hill and Mary Fulton, on 1 November 1827.^3,4 She died on 9 February 1894 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania.¹ She was buried in Conneaut Cemetery, Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.¹

     Margaret Montgomery was born on 3 March 1816 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania.¹ She was the daughter of James Montgomery and Sarah Fulton.¹ She married Samuel Hill, son of Archibald Hill and Mary Fulton, on 24 December 1840.² She died on 5 January 1885 in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, at age 68.¹ She was buried in Conneaut Cemetery, Fairfield Township.¹

     Ann Hill was born on 23 October 1809 in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.¹ She was the daughter of Archibald Hill and Mary Fulton.¹ She married George Merriman on 2 December 1833.¹

     Thomas Fulton was born circa 1755 in Ireland.¹ He married Sarah Buchanan in Ireland.^2,3 He died on 16 December 1813 in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.¹ He was buried in Conneaut Cemetery, Fairfield Township.¹

     Thomas Fulton and Sarah Buchanan emigrated in 1792 from Donaghedy, County Tyrone, Ireland, and settled in western Pennsylvania. What was then part of Allegheny County became part of Fairfield Township, Crawford County in 1800.^4,5 According to Margaret Powell, on the long voyage of nine weeks, Thomas Fulton would take his four children, Mary, John, Annie, and Isabel, on deck for an airing every day and our "little Irish grandmother" would dance for the officers of the ship.⁴ Thomas and Sarah came to America with a letter of recommendation from their church in Ireland. The letter read as follows: That the bearer Thomas Fulton and wife, Sarah Fulton, otherwise Buchanan were many years members of our congregation, the tenor of their behavior was extremely regular and their characters fair and irreproachable, they in a word conducted themselves in a line of great sobriety, purity, probity and uniform virtue and that they communicated with us in sealing ordinances and are entitled to a participation of the privileges of the Christian Church and to the kind regard and confidence of those among whom they may reside, this as far as in known to us is certified, Donagh, Haddee, in County of Tyrone in Ireland, Mary 24th, 1792, by Rev. Nelson, Minister. They were recieved as members of the Presbyterian church in Fairfield Township, Crawford County.⁶ He was naturalized in 1802 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. The record states that Thomas had arrived in Pennsylvania as early as 1795.⁷ He left a will in 1813 in Crawford County. According to the will, Thomas lists all of his children, leaving his "plantation" in Fairfield Township to his only son John.⁸

     Sarah Buchanan was born circa 1748 in Omagh, County Tyrone.¹ She married Thomas Fulton in Ireland.^1,2 She died on 15 February 1813 in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.^1,3 She was buried in Conneaut Cemetery, Fairfield Township.¹

     The fact that Sarah would have been 47 years old when her daughter Jane was born in 1795 suggests that Sarah's birthdate in about 1748 as calculated from the age recorded on her gravestone is incorrect.^4,1
     Concerning proof of Sarah's maiden name being Buchanan, a letter of recommendation from the Donahedy Church in Ireland written for Thomas and Sarah Fulton in 1792 as they left for America (referred to by Margaret Powell in a paper for the 1908 Powell Reunion) states that Sarah's maiden name was Buchanan. All other family records agree with that point. Margaret Powell's paper further states that Sarah's mother's name was Kajan; however, that appears to be recollection and not based on a source document.
     When it comes to the name of Sarah's father there is some confusion. Aunt Jennie Marsteller's papers record her father's name as Patrick in some cases and in other I find Patrick. There is also some reference that Robert was Patrick son. Because of this confusion and since there is no known primary record which records the name of Sarah's father, I have made no attempt to record it in my databases.^5,6,7 Sarah Buchanan and Thomas Fulton emigrated in 1792 from Donaghedy, County Tyrone, Ireland, and settled in western Pennsylvania. What was then part of Allegheny County became part of Fairfield Township, Crawford County in 1800.^8,9

     John Fulton was born circa 1781 in Ireland.¹ He was the son of Thomas Fulton and Sarah Buchanan.¹ He married Mary Cochran, daughter of Thomas Cochran and Margaret Knox, on 14 December 1814.² He died on 16 April 1838 in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.¹ He was buried in Conneaut Cemetery, Fairfield Township.¹

     Mary Cochran was born on 12 September 1797 in Adams County, Pennsylvania.¹ She was the daughter of Thomas Cochran and Margaret Knox.¹ She married John Fulton, son of Thomas Fulton and Sarah Buchanan, on 14 December 1814.¹ She died on 28 January 1877 at age 79.¹

     Anne Fulton was born circa 1786 in Ireland.¹ She was the daughter of Thomas Fulton and Sarah Buchanan.¹ She was unmarried.¹ She died on 25 August 1844 in Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.¹ She was buried in Conneaut Cemetery, Fairfield Township.¹

     Sarah Fulton was born in Pennsylvania.^1,2 She was the daughter of Thomas Fulton and Sarah Buchanan.¹ She married Samuel Nelson after 1813 Sarah's father Thomas wrote his will.^3,1

     Jane Buchanan Fulton was born on 29 April 1795 in Pennsylvania.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of Thomas Fulton and Sarah Buchanan.¹ She married James Cochran Esq., son of Thomas Cochran and Margaret Knox.¹ She died on 20 December 1862 in Cochranton, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, at age 67.¹ She was buried in Cochranton Cemetery, Cochranton.¹

     Jane Buchanan Fulton and James Cochran Esq. had no children.⁴

     Isabella Fulton was born circa 1788 in Ireland.^1,2 She was the daughter of Thomas Fulton and Sarah Buchanan.¹ She married Thomas Powell on 18 June 1805.³ She died on 10 March 1870 in East Fairfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.¹
