Alexander Moreland1
d. circa 1793
Alexander
Moreland died circa 1793 in Franklin Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
2
Alexander
Moreland was taxed for 300 acres, six horses, and 4 cattle in Franklin Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, in 1785.
3 Alexander Moreland left a will on 24 June 1793 in Fayette County. According to the will, he bequeathed 12 pounds to his sons David and William; 12 pounds and a young dark bay mare to his daughter Nancy Ricketts; and the remainder of his estate, both land and personal estate, went to his executor, his son Isaiah. William Miller, David Bradford, and John Killpatrick were named as witnesses.
4 According to Gladys Rominger, Alexander's wife was Jane Cunningham; however, while the Cunningham family definitely lived in the same neighborhood as the Moreland family, I have found no record to substantiate this [DKM, 2006]. The only souce information regarding Alexander's wife and possibly the mother of his four known children comes from his will dated 1793. While the will does not mention his wife's name, it does state that she was still alive when the will was written. In his will Alexander commends to his executor [his son Isaiah] the care of his wife "whom it has pleased God to bereave of the use of her natural reason." Isaiah is to maintain and support her "on the necessaries of life in a humane and Christian manner, and in case of sickeness to render her incapable of assisting herself to furnish all needful assistance." And finally "when it shall please God to remove her from the stage of time by death to procure her a decent and becoming burial."
