     Daniel Reese was born on 6 November 1804 in Moore Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Jacob Reese and Anna Dorothea (?)1 He married Catherine Shaffer.2 He died on 22 June 1881 in Marshall, Calhoun County, Michigan, from injuries sustained from being struck by a train.3,4
     Daniel Reese and Peter Reese lived in Walker Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, in the early 1830s. Daniel and Peter were both listed on the Walker Township assessment rolls from 1830 to 1832. Daniel's name was crossed off the lists in 1833, but Peter's name remained indicating that Daniel had moved. Peter's name was crossed off the tax rolls in 1835.5 He was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census of Walker Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania.6 He and Peter Reese were living in Cranberry Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1835.7 He was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census of Cranberry Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.8
     Daniel Reese purchased 250 acres in Cranberry Township, Venango County, in 1840 from James Sterrett. He purchased an additional 100 acres through a sheriff sale from Mr. Sterrett in 1846.9,10 An unknown person was taxed for 100 acres in Cranberry Township in 1846. Daniel appears on the 1847 tax list, but is not assessed for any land. Daniel does not appear on the Cranberry Township assessments after 1847.11
     Daniel Reese served as a private in Company H, 11th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry during the War with Mexico.12
     In the 1870 Census of Moore Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, Daniel Reese was probably the Daniel Reese enumerated in the household of Benjamin Roth. Daniel was listed as a 60 year old laborer who could not read or write.13 He was enumerated in the household of John Barthalomew on the 1880 Census of Eckford Township, Calhoun County, Michigan.14

     Mary Hulda Brown was born on 11 February 1863 in Rockland Township, Venango County.1 She was the daughter of John H. Brown and Catherine Domer.2 Mary married Homer Burton Melat, son of William Perry Melat and Caroline Morrison, on 11 February 1884 by Rev. R. M. Felt at Rockland Methodist Church.1,3 She died on 16 January 1950 in Rockland Township at age 86.1 She and Homer Burton were buried in Melat Cemetery, Rockland Township, Venango County.4
     Mary Hulda Brown went by the name of Hulda. She was educated at Grove City Teacher's School and worked as a schoolteacher before her marriage.5 Mary and Homer lived in Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.6
     Mary and Homer raised a family of four daughters and 5 sons, one son having died in infancy.
     Hulda and Homer attended the Domer Evangelical Chapel in Rockland Township.7
