Jacob B. Engle was living in Richland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1860.9 He was living in Venango City Borough, Venango County, in 1870 along with his parents. It is not clear to this researcher where Venango City Borough was located but it does not appear to be the same as the Venango Borough which was located in what is now Southside Oil City. According to the census the post office for Venango City Borough was Porterfield, which was located in Richland Township. Neighbors listed in the census are also consistent with Richland Township names.10 He was working as a carpenter in Emlenton, Venango County, in 1880.11 He was living in Emlenton in 1895 where he was working as an undertaker and making furniture.12,6 He was an oil producer living in Emlenton in 1910.13
