Jesse Wilcoxon was born on 30 January 1738 in Prince Georges County, Maryland.1 He was the son of Thomas Wilcoxon and Ruth (?)1 He married Elizabeth Claggett, daughter of Thomas Claggett and Ann Magruder, on 30 November 1769 in Montgomery County, Maryland.2 He died on 11 December 1811 in Montgomery County, Maryland, at age 73.1
Jesse Wilcoxon served as a captain in the Revolutionary War between 20 November 1776 and 4 August 1780.3
Jesse Wilcoxon and Elizabeth Claggett owned 77 1/4 acres called "Bachelor's Choice near Oxon Hill. (just south of Washington D.C.) They purchased it in 1764 from Frederick, Lord Baltimore. On the back of a land grant were written the names of their children dates and times of birth, their marriage and the birthdate of Elizabeth. Jesse's grandfather John leased a tract of land called Batchelors Hope located approximately 6 miles north east of Oxon Hill. The lease was good until his death. It is possible that the land may have gone back to the owner Thomas Addison or to Lord Balitmore's family when John died in 1712. It very well could have been renamed to "Choice"
In 1784 Jesse and Elizabeth purchased a plantation in Montgomery Co. Maryland, calling it "Buck Lodge". He built a large stone house on the property and lived here until he died on December 11, 1811. The house is still standing, but it is not a white pillard, red brick mansion that one might imagine. There are also stone buildings in the yard that had been used for the slave quarters. Reports are that a family cemetery was once near the house, but all signs of that have disappeared and the land where it was is being farmed. in Montgomery County, Maryland, in 1800.2,4,5,6
Jesse Wilcoxon left a will on 16 November 1811 in Montgomery County, Maryland. According to the will, he bequeated his lands, personal property and nine negroes to his wife, Elizabeth, for the duration of her life. After her decease it was to go to his son Horatio. He also gave to son Horatio Wilcoxon, "my large bowfront looking glass and blacksmith tools". His daughter Deborah Magruder should have ten dollars to buy herself a mourning dress. he appointed his wife, Elizabeth Wilcoxon, to be his administratrix, and his son, Horatio Wilcoxon, jointly with the Administration of his Estate. Nicholas Lowe Dawson, Brooks Jones, and William Dawson signed the will as witnesses.7
