Cecilia H. Schmidt
     Cecilia H. Schmidt was born on 1 December 1898 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.1,3,4 She was the daughter of George William Schmidt and Ellen Josephine Howley.1 She married Albert C. Francis.5 She and Albert C. Francis were divorced in October 1969 in Pinellas County, Florida.5 She died on 16 February 1989 in Pittsburgh at age 90.6 She was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Allegheny County.7
     Cecilia H. Schmidt was graduated in 1922 from University of Pittsburgh.6 She was assistant society editor and club editor at the Gazette-Times from 1922 to 1923. She began a long career in social work in 1923 as a caseworker for the Children's Service Bureau. In the 1936 flood disaster she worked with Red Cross and during World War II with the Travelers Aid Society. She retired in 1968 from the Pittsburgh Blind Association after 14 years as a caseworker. At the time of her death she had been living with the Little Sisters of the Poor at the Wall Memorial Home in Pittsburgh.6

     Wilhelmina Eisenman and Michael Dahle moved from Clarion County, Pennsylvania to Pittsburgh in 1852. In addition to being a riverman, Mike was also an innkeeper. When he and Wilhelmina moved to Pittsburgh, they lived in a house on the banks of the Monongahela on 26th Street, probably currently the Southside Riverfront Park.      Michael Dahle was known as Michael Dale.8,1 About 1837, Michael went to Clarion County with several companion started to float lumber down the Clarion and Allegheny Rivers to Pittsburgh. According to his obituary, upon hearing that there was a "lumber famine" in New Orleans, although ridiculed by others, he undertook to float lumber to that point, being the first to attempt to carry through such as enterprise. He floated 7 rafts of Clarion County pine to New Orleans with the assistance of 5 men, and made the business attractive to men seeking investments in lumber. Recognzing the potential profit, wealthy investors from Clarion, Westmoreland, and Allegheny Counties formed a company to ship lumber by water. Mike engaged in this business until 1885.7,1 He and Wilhelmina Eisenman moved from Clarion County, Pennsylvania to Pittsburgh in 1852. In addition to being a riverman, Mike was also an innkeeper.
