     Henry Karns was born on 19 April 1842 in Pinegrove Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.1,2 He was the son of James Karns and Mary Stroup.1 He married Ellen Slaughenhaupt.1 He married Margaret Gloss.1 He married Catherine Myers on 14 October 1876.1 He died on 18 February 1925 in Brandon Station, Venango County, Pennsylvania, at age 82.1,3 He was buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City.3
     Henry Karns served in the Civil War. He enlisted on 2 Jul 1862, as a private in Company F, 121st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded at Gettsyburg on 1 July 1863. In June 1864 he was furloughed for ten days and returned to Petersburg at end of the time. He was detailed as a teamster at Belle Plain Landin for three months. he took conspicuous part in the battles of Fredericksburg, White Oak Church, Winchester, Raccoon Ford, Weldon R.R., Culpepper, Spottsylvania and Appomatox. He was honorably discharged at Washington, D.C. on 14 June 1865.1
     Henry Karns was a farmer and coal miner in Pinegrove Township, Venango County.4,1 He was living in Franklin, Venango County, in 1880 where Henry was working as a carpenter.5 He was living in Oil City, Venango County, in 1900 where he worked as a rig builder.6,2 In 1920, Henry Karns and Catherine Karns were living with Henry's son Harry in Mineral Township, Venango County.7
