Peter Benninghoff Tarr1

Peter Benninghoff
Tarr was a lawyer. He entered Columbia Law School in New York in February 1890 and in February 1891 entered the office of Cary, Rumsey & Hastings in Olean, New York, as a student. He was admitted to the Rochester Bar on 30 March 1893 and was elected a justice of the peace for Olean on 11 May 1893. He engaged in general practice in Olean for several years. Following the death of his father in 1900, he returned to Titusville to look after the legal interests of his mother. He was elected alderman from the Fourth Ward in Titusville in 1919 and was re-elected at the end of each term. He also served as police magistrate for several terms. Besides law, Peter also had interests in the oil business and owned a productive lease in the Selkirk region.
