Daniel Robbins was born between 1760 and 1770.2,3 He married Sarah Leedom, daughter of John Leedom and Letitia Jones.1 He married Sarah Leedom.4 He died before October 1844 in Adams County, Ohio.5
Daniel Robbins was living in Nottingham Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, in 1781. While we don't know when Daniel first appeared in this region, he does appear in this earliest list of Washington County inhabitants. Finding earlier records which might shed light on when Daniel first arrived is complicated by the fact that this region of southwestern Pennsylvania was also claimed by the state of Virginia. In addition to Pennsylvania's administration of the area, Augusta County, Virginia also claimed jurisdiction of the area. The area where Daniel lived became part of Yohogania County, Virginia in 1776 and Washington County, Pennsylvania in 1781. The Virginia-Pennsylvania boundary dispute lingered for several years but was largely over by 1786 when Yohagania County was dissolved and the southwestern counties of Pennsylvania became the recognized jurisdiction in the area. The area where Daniel lived fell into Washington County but in 1788 (administratively in 1790) this area became part of Allegheny County.6 He appeared on the census of 1790 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. His household consisted of two males under 16 (probably sons Philip and John), one male over 16 (probably Daniel), and one female over 16 (probably his wife Sarah.)7
Daniel Robbins purchased 112 acres in Peters Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, on 17 June 1789 from Benjamin Keykendall and his wife Anne.8 He and Sarah Leedom sold 132 acres in Mifflin Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on 31 March 1792 to George Mortan for 50 pounds. The property included the land Daniel purchased from Keykendall in 1789 which at the time was part of Washington County. Allegheny County was formed in 1790.9
Daniel Robbins moved from Pennsylvania to Adams County, Ohio, before March 1798 when Daniel, Isaac Edgington, and John McGate, were appointed "supervisors" for Manchester Township by the Adams County Court.10 He was licensed to operate a tavern in Adams County, Ohio, in June 1798.11 He purchased Inlot #5 in the newly platted village of West Union, Adams County, Ohio, on 17 May 1804.12 He purchased 200 acres in Surveys 3054 and 3571 in Liberty Township, Adams County, Ohio, on 17 September 1806 from Nathaniel Massie and wife Susan. He sold the property, which is about three miles west of West Union, to Robert McDaid and John Kincaid in 1820.13 He and John Robbins were listed in pollbook for election held in Sprigg Township, Adams County, Ohio, on 9 October 1810.14
Daniel Robbins and Sarah Leedom purchased 1000 acres in Winchester Township, Adams County, Ohio, on 16 July 1813 from William Vause and his wife Rachel. The land was the westerly 1000 acres of the original 2000 acre survey. Located 4 miles northeast of the village of Winchester, the farm is situated at the north edge of Adams County, a small portion projecting north into Highland County. On 16 January 181, Daniel and his wife Sarah made deeds to sons William, John, and Thomas covering three tracts of 100 acres each out of the 1000 acres purchased from Vause. Daniel and Sarah had previously sold 118 acres to John Davidson on 20 August 1814; they subsequently sold him another 80 acres on 3 August 1818. On 24 January 1816, they also sold William Martin 118 3/4 acres; on 3 July 1819, they sold their son John an additional 25 acres, and on 4 September 1819, they sold David Cox 118 acres. No more sales were made out of the Vause tract until 1 February 1832, when Daniel and Sarah sold 81 acres to Joseph Marlatt. Then on 6 August 1835, Daniel disposed of the rest of the 1000 acres by deeding it to his son Daniel; this deed which covers 164 1/2 acres was not signed by Sarah suggesting that she had died sometime between 1 February 1832 and 6 August 1835.15 He and Sarah Leedom appeared to have lived on the Vause tract in Scott Township, Adams County, Ohio.16,17,18 He purchased 112 acres in Adams County, Ohio, on 7 April 1836 from Joseph Marquis. This tract was part of Survey 3086, located 1 1/4 miles south-southwest of the village of WInchester.19 He sold 25 acres in Adams County, Ohio, on 23 September 1836 to Andrew Edgington. While this property is in Survey 3086, the same tract as the 112 acres purchased by Daniel earlier that year, this 25 acres was actually purchased by Daniel's second wife Sarah and her first husband James Holliday in 1835.20 Daniel Robbins's 112 acres in Survey 3086 in Adams County, Ohio, was sold by his heirs on 7 October 1844. His sons Philip, John, Thomas, Joseph, and Daniel Jr sold their interest in the property to their brother WIlliam. On 4 February 1847 William sold the 6/7 interest in the property to Christian Bottleman. The final 7th interst, held by the heirs of Daniel's son Jesse, was sold to Mr. Bottleman by 1852.21
