Nelson.1 He died on 9 November 1917 in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, at age 22.3 He was buried in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, Crawford County.4
     Walter was serving as a private in Company B, 112th Infantry at the time of his death. According to the newspaper account, Walter was suffering from a tooth ache and was given permission to go off base to spend the night. His body was found the next day with his face covered with a towel soaked with a combination of chloroform and carbolic acid. The first thought was that he had committed suicide, but it was found afterward that he had been using this combination to alleviate the toothache, and that his death was accidental.3
