ChartsDescendants of Jacob Reese

Jacob Reese was born on 25 July 1758 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.1 He married Anna Dorothea (?)2,3 He died on 19 October 1816 in Moore Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, at age 58.1 He was buried in Mooretown Cemetery, Moore Township.1
Jacob appears on the tax lists for Moore Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, first in 1783, then in 1784, listed as Jacob Ries, a weaver with 35 acres of land, ten of which are cleared and two have been planted with corn. He also had a horse. The following year he has 45 acres, a horse and cow. By 1787 he has two horses. In 1796 he is Jacob Res with 100 acres. In 1799 Jacob Riess has 25 acres of deeded land and 75 acres of warranted land, with 30 acres cleared. By 1800 he was listed as a farmer, and by 1802 he had 148 acres of land.4,5
Jacob's appearance on the tax lists in 1783 coincides with his purchase of two tracts of land in Moore Township. On 20 March 1783, Jacob purchased those two tracts for £48, which adjoined the lands of Adam Marsh, John Miller, and Christian Miller, and other lands. He also purchased from Christopher Johnson another tract for £10 which was warranted to Johnson on 5 January 1775. This tract adjoined land belonging to John Miller, Bertoll Adam Marss, George Keppinger and others.6 Jacob Reese was probably a weaver by trade, but was also a farmer in Moore Township.7,8,9,10,5 He and Anna Dorothea (?) were baptismal sponsors for Christina Richner, daughter of Johann and Maria Barbara Richner in 1802, and for Chassimer, child of Heinrich and Magdalena Pfatts in 1807. Jacob and Anna Ries were baptismal sponsors in 1797 for Peter and Catharine Siegel's son Jonas.2 He died intestate (without a will). For the estate of "Jacob Rees, yeoman, dec'd, late of Moore township", his wife Dorothy was administratrix and Abraham Heller was her agent. The inventory of his estate included such items such as cows and pigs, crops of timothy, flax, corn, hay, oats and rye, a wagon, a windmill, stove and pipes, 2 iron potts and panns, 8 beehives, 3 spinning wheels, plow and harrow. It also included monies due from John Riese, John Stout, Daniel Trevel (?), and Christopher Gower. "Book debts" against the estate included monies owed to Jacob Krock, Jacob Stahley, John Riese, Jacob Riese Jr., John Miller shoemaker, David Miller taylor, Magdalena Miller, widow, and Philip Diemer.
The land in the estate was purchased by Joseph Michael, Jacob Rees and Joseph Rees at $20 per acre totaling $3137.57 (calculates to 156.87 acres). In addition Peter Shall purchased 11 acres of wood land for $3 per acre. The final estate accounting took place 20 January 1820. All 7 children were to have received $130.88 each on 1 April 1819, would receive $153.00 each on 1 April 1820, and "immediately upon decease of the widow", $138.11 each. The widow Dorothy would receive annual interest payments of $58.01.11
