(?) circa 1865.2 He died in November 1907 in Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania, at age 74.6 He was buried in Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading.6
     John F. Rote was living in Goshen Township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, in 1860.3 He and Sarah A. (?) moved from Pennsylvania to Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas, by 1870 where he was a fire insurance agent.7 He and Sarah A. (?) returned to Pennsylvania by 1880 where John was a hotel keeper in Reading, Berks County. By 1887, John operated Rote's Hotel and Restaurant on Penn Street.8,2,9
