He saw action at Gaum, Leyte, Okinawa, and was commissioned a second lieutenant of Engineers in March 1946. He served as executive office of the Headquarter Company, First Army, Govenors Island before being transfered to Germany.1

     Henry Mohnkern was a carpenter by trade. After a brief stop in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Henry settled in Venango County apply his trade. First at Rockmere, then at the furnace at Black Forge in Cranberry Township. He built the big bellows for the forge before spending two years in Butler County, and a short time in Clarion County. He and his family settled in Siverly in 1863. As a pioneer mechanic he found plenty of work at his trade building many houses in Oil City.1 He appeared on the census of 1840 in Cranberry Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.4 He and Mary Ann Winger were living in Beaver Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, in 1850.5 He was living in Waterson's Ferry, Madison Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, in 1860.6 He was members of the Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church.1 He was living in Cornplanter Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1870.7 He was living in Siverly, Cornplanter Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1880 with his daughter Elizabeth Culbertson.8

     Jane Christina Winger was born on 23 April 1821 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.2 She was the daughter of John Winger and Christina Mary Miller.1 She married James Nellis.3 She died on 2 January 1905 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, at age 83.1
     Jane Christina Winger and James Nellis were living in Cranberry Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1850 where James was a farmer.4 She and James Nellis were living in President Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1860 where James was a boatman on the Allegheny River.5 She and James Nellis were living in Wilmington Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in 1870 where James worked as a blacksmith.6 She was living in Siverly Borough, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1880 with her sons James and Edwin.7
