Hays on 1 September 1870 in Pleasantville, Venango County, Pennsylvania.1 He died on 23 June 1913 in Phillipsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania, at age 66.1
     John W. Brumbaugh served in the Civil War. He enlisted in Meadville, Pennsylvania on 1 March 1864 as a Private in PA Volunteer Infantry, Company G, 83rd Regiment. He was wounded in the left leg at Laurel Hill, Virginia on 8 May 1864. John was discharged on 3 July 1865 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.1
     After his discharge, John W. Brumbaugh lived in Tionesta until 1869 when he moved to Clearfield, Pennsylvania. After one year, he moved to Phillipsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania where he lived the rest of his life in 1866.1 He was a carpenter.1
