     John Stroup was born between 1790 and 1800 in Patton Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania.2,3 He was the son of Adam Stroup and Eva (?)1 He married Nancy (?)4 He died in April 1838 in Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.1
     John Stroup, along with his mother, brothers, and sisters, moved by 1820 to Rockland Township, Venango County.2 He purchased 119 acres in Rockland Township, Venango County, on 3 February 1825 from Bingham heirs.5 He left a will dated 1838 in which he bequeathed $10 a year to Eva Stroup, his mother, for as long as she lived. The remainder of his estate was to be left to his brothers and sisters or their heirs and to William, Henry and Ann Manson.4 His 119 acre farm in Rockland Township was sold between 1868 and 1873 through a series of quit-claim deeds by his heirs.6
