     John Lane Smith was born on 8 March 1815 in Potter Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of David Smith and Sarah Lane.2,3,4 He married Eve Carner, daughter of John Carner and Susan Stroup, on 1 June 1843.5 He died on 3 October 1864 in Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, at age 49.1 He was buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.1
     John Lane Smith and Eve first went to housekeeping in Sandycreek Township, Venango County, probably on land owned by John's father.6 He purchased 91 acres in Rockland Township, Venango County, in 1848.7 A few years later, John and Eve settled onto that land in Rockland Township, Venango County, which was situated on the East Sandy Road. John lived there the rest of his life.8 In addition to being a farmer, John Lane Smith was a carpenter. According to Rockland Township school records, John built the Pine Hill schoolhouse.9 After John died, Eve and her children continued to live on and work the family farm.10
     John Lane Smith and Eve Smith were members of the Pine Hill Church of God in Coal City, Rockland Township.11

Pryor, son of John Pryor and Hannah Lovell.8 While living with her granddaughter Edna Bechtel, Eve died on 13 March 1910 in Oil City Hospital, Oil City, Venango County, Pennsylvania, at age 83.2,1,9 She was buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania.6
